The Role
The Johannesburg RMA Technician will provide onsite and remote technical support, including diagnostics, troubleshooting, commissioning assistance, repairs and warranty/RMA support. The role includes remote fault-finding, workshop-based testing and onsite visits where required to support installations and resolve technical issues.
Key Responsibilities
Technical Repairs and Diagnostics
- Diagnose, test and repair inverters, batteries and renewable energy equipment, including AC, DC and electronic fault-finding, firmware updates, product configuration and functional testing. Maintain accurate repair records and ensure all work is completed to a high technical standard.
Remote and Onsite Technical Support
- Provide remote and onsite technical support to installers, customers and internal teams, including troubleshooting, commissioning assistance, system fault investigations and technical guidance on renewable energy systems.
RMA and Warranty Management
- Manage incoming and outgoing RMA equipment, coordinate warranty repairs with manufacturers, maintain accurate service histories and ensure efficient turnaround times while following manufacturer and internal RMA procedures.
Workshop and Repair Centre Operations
- Support the daily operation of the Johannesburg/Northriding Technical and RMA Centre by maintaining workshop tools, test equipment, repair components and consumables, while ensuring the workshop remains organised, safe and efficient.
Technical Reporting and Escalations
- Prepare clear technical reports, diagnostic findings and repair feedback for customers, installers, internal teams and manufacturers. Escalate complex technical issues to the Technical Manager, senior technical team or OEMs where required.
Technical Knowledge — Key Requirement
- Strong hands-on knowledge of renewable energy systems.
- Ability to diagnose, test and fault-find across AC, DC and electronic systems.
- Experience with hybrid inverters, lithium battery systems and high-voltage DC batteries.
- Knowledge of BMS communication, CAN Bus communication and solar PV systems.
- Understanding of three-phase electrical systems and electrical protection systems.
- Ability to perform firmware updates, equipment configuration and functional testing.
- Confident using electrical testing equipment and interpreting technical results.
- Ability to provide practical technical support to installers and customers.
- PCB or board-level repair experience will be advantageous.
Experience with brands such as Victron, GoodWe, Sunsynk, ATESS, BSL or similar will be advantageous
Minimum Requirements
- National Diploma in Electrical Engineering, Electronics Engineering, Mechatronics or similar technical qualification.
- Alternatively, a qualified Electrician with strong renewable energy experience.
- Minimum 5 years’ technical experience in electrical, electronics or renewable energy systems.
- Hands-on experience with fault-finding, diagnostics and repairs on electrical/electronic equipment.
- Experience working with lithium batteries, hybrid inverters and solar PV systems.
- Ability to use electrical testing equipment, including multimeters, insulation testers and oscilloscopes.
- Strong understanding of AC, DC and three-phase electrical systems.
- Ability to provide both remote and on-site technical support.
- Strong technical reporting and Microsoft Office skills.
- Valid South African driver’s licence.
- Ability to travel within Gauteng and surrounding areas when required.
Advantageous
- Experience with high-voltage DC battery systems.
- Knowledge of Battery Management Systems and CAN Bus communication.
- Experience with firmware updates, equipment configuration and commissioning.
- Experience with PCB or board-level repairs.
- Experience with electrical protection systems.
- Experience working in an RMA, repair centre, technical support or warranty environment.
- Experience dealing directly with installers, customers and OEM/manufacturer support teams.
- Product experience with Victron, GoodWe, Sunsynk, ATESS, BSL or similar renewable energy brands.
- Ability to work independently and help establish or improve workshop/RMA processes.
